going exactly to your character) when you leave the area and return. Oh and you know what? Enemies keep looking for you (i.e. Now try doing that in a dungeon with three rooms!Ĭombine that with the phenomenon you mentioned and stealth is just not a viable option anymore. I mean in Thief or The Elder Scrolls when you botched it you could be like "Nice knowing y'all! Bye bye!" and make a run for it. Imo it's still not appropriate because of the small dungeons. Monsters should only start "looking for" the invisible character if they had seen a visible party member beforehand. Sorry for the wall of Not sure if you worked on that part but it seems that some ennemies will start "looking for" (ie rush at the rest of your party) upon being seen by an invisible party member even if they never saw him go invisible.

Please o' mighty Beamdog - hear my plea: Restore the old ways of stealth - make it possible for hidden characters to lose their persuers again and please stop monsters from attacking other party members that are way out of sight! I'm certain most players will not notice a difference while it would greatly increase the joy for us sneaky types!

Nevertheless I think that is a terrible design decision because anyone playing with a full party and rather conventional will face the enemies in groups anyways (just imagine the mighty Minsc running from enemies - he would never do that) - while at the same time different tactics are thwarted! Effectively a huge chunk of freedom has been taken away in favor of balancing. Now I can understand why Beamdog did it: They wanted gain control over the encounters and balance the gameplay/difficulty for everyone - and my play style sabotages such efforts. Now guess what: I open the door, vanish into the shadows - and all of the monsters storm toward me AND Safara - who is several rooms away. Safara is waiting on the other end of the dungeon - stealthed as well. My character is stealthed and wears a cape of non-detection. Now when I wanted to take my archer on a ride in Dragonspear I already noticed in the very first area that things were awfully wrong! As soon as I attacked one enemy (the only one within line of sight) the whole group started coming after me - thus making it impossible to single out enemies.Īnd here comes the ridiculous part: The whole group kept following my char even though he was hidden! I had fired a single arrow and vanished into the shadows before anyone could possibly react - but all of the enemies knew magically where I was and just followed me around until my stealth check failedīut things get more ridiculous from here: I'm currently in a crypt/dwarven mine where there's a group of nasty undead waiting behind a door. So far I've played through BG:EE twice with an archer and once with an assassin using these tactics and I'm really loving it!

The play style I found for myself is heavily stealth based, usually involving kiting, hit-and-run and separating enemies from their group. With the release of BG:EE I had figured it would be about time to dive into the game again - but this time I did something radically different: I played through the entire game with just my main char and Imoen - and I had a blast doing so! My previous problems with the game had been solved and I even had to come up with new strategies in several situations since open confrontation is not a viable option when you're vastly outnumbered. Everything was too much micromanagement for my taste - the pathfinding becomes more of a problem with each additional party member and I felt disconnected from my character (in fact the game felt more like an RTS than an RPG). Now to understand what the heck I'm talking about I guess I should briefly explain how I play the game: While I used to play BG in a classic way (full party, diverse classes) I never really had fun doing so. it hit me with a baseball bat): Stealth is completely broken! I've finally had the chance to take my favorite BG character on a stroll to Dragonspear and so far I'm really loving it! It feels a lot more dynamic than BG1, the soundtrack is great and the atmosphere sucked me right in!
